Hackday liveblogging
Right. This is more adventuresome than anyone had supposed. About at 1 pm, Ally Pally (one of the highest spots in London) was hit by, not one, but two lightnings. A tremendous thunder, a crash, a long squeak… and the smokevents went up: Slowly, unescapably, more than a dozen swing covers of the roof opened up — and in came the rain. Unfortunately, lightning no. 2 hit the fire board… The computer stubbornly thought the smokevents were actually closed. So it kept raining in the hall… and we had to evacuate to the Palm Court — which has a glass roof but nearly no power, and is on the other end of the wing from the wifi antenna..
Wifi is somewhat flaky, but i’ll try to upload pictures of hackers on beanbags under potted palms.
In short, it’s fun!
Update, 15:55: We’re back in the West Hall, bit hungry but well equipped with coffee and Mars bars. People have interesting problems and I feel inadequate. No loss of laptops or other equipment. Power’s good, wifi is better than before.
